Silly Spooky Monstrous

The idea for this monster came from an example monster I drew at the Dairy Barn Art Center's Summer Art Camp. The time lapse for this drawing on YouTube is the first one where I filmed it in 4K then adjusted the speed myself in CapCut. I created an original soundtrack for the timelapse too, but that's nothing new. 😎

I made a time lapse video of drawing this portrait with an original song to go with it. I’ve been enjoying pairing my drawings with music like this, especially when the characters start to feel like they could live in that sound space.

My first time lapse video of drawing a portrait then creating an original song to go with it. Glad to finally bring this idea to reality, I think it'll be something I continue explore a lot.
Cover for Doodle, a slow‑burn electronic song that reminisces a dark, video‑game castle. Built in LMMS with the Nescaline instrument plugin and driven by a portable drum machine, this track layers hypnotic, repetitive motifs over a chilled hip‑hop groove. Solid for late‑night exploration, ambient gaming sessions, or introspective lo‑fi beats.

Cover for my first EP Saffron to Lavender. It is an experimental EP inspired by the eerie tones of Lavender Town in Pokémon games. Sabrina, a psychic girl growing up in the slums of Saffron City, on her journey to the spirit-soaked Lavender Town. A hybrid of synth wave, lo fi, and hip-hop beats were made with her story in mind.

I watched the documentary Kusama: Infinity and was inspired. I already loved Kusama’s work having seen an installation mirror piece in Pittsburgh a few years ago and many 2d works online. But, had no clue how long she has been making professional work and especially nothing about her struggle to break into the art world.

Boss Bara Darksea of Fortune
November 2023
Colored pencil, graphite
5.5 in. x 8.5 in.
“Boss Bara” is a parody of the superhero ‘H-E-double hockey stick boy’. Boss Bara dawns the signature red coat, pistol, and dangerous other hand. I created this by sketching in pencil then carefully using colored pencils. Most of the technique was colored pencil burnishing for smooth color blends. I did use directional lines for Boss Bara’s fur. The inspiration comes from the bright and bold colors of comic book covers. There is something gruff, tuff, but also goofy about capybaras which is why I used Boss Bara for the parody. I think I mostly met my goals; I did accidentally do the title in reverse colors. It does look like it could be a real comic. I learned that colored pencils take time, but their waxy bright colors are wonderful. It is close to what I imagined, I like the background as it goes with the underwater adventure concept. If I did this again, I think I would make a sense that has more action.

The Art of Dunking

This drawing of Shaquille O’Neal is surrounded by a vibrant swirl of zentangle doodles. Pattern was the key principle of design here—each zentangle came from different step-by-step pattern guides I followed and explored. Color is definitely the loudest element in this piece. I’ve always loved including as many colors as possible in my art, and this was no exception. I used the grid method to help me accurately draw Shaq. After sketching the outlines, I went over them with fine-tip pens and brought it all to life with color. The big idea was to create something bold and bright to honor one of the most iconic basketball players of all time. My goals were to improve my use of the grid method and to learn new zentangle patterns along the way—and I feel like I met them. I made something different from my typical work while maintaining my own style.

My first drawing on marker paper. I remember how shocking it was how differently my markers glided on this smooth paper instead of usual sketchbook paper. This piece sparked many future drawings on marker paper, it is still on of my favorite ways to create art.
