Cover design for my album Yellow. A chill yet experimental journey through everyday sound. From the clinks of dishwater and the gurgle of a coffee pot to sidewalk chatter and air conditioners, these tracks stretch field recordings into ambient textures, glitchy IDM grooves, and lo-fi dreamscapes. The last few pieces evolve further with the help of my first MIDI board.

Without much doubt, Le Guin is my favorite writer for this year’s reads. Earlier this year I read The Word for World is Forest, a Christmas gift from my dad. Then got The Left Hand of Darkness from the public library. Next listened to A Wizard of Earthsea and now I am waiting on Libby to borrow The Tombs of Atuan.

Two factors drive my interest in reclaimed materials. First, a moral desire to avoid waste. The second stronger factor is memories tied to these castaway objects of mine. From receipts to pickleball shoelaces, when I incorporate found and gathered things into a collage, I revisit the memories tied to each one. On the frame are names of creatives who have inspired me at various points. Their names and these items are an homage to both the small and big influences that guided me to now.

When I create work with the intention of helping myself understand the world, I gravitate toward found objects. Fragments from the past gather in pockets, desk drawers, and the nooks of cars. These objects are neglected scraps or stored without a genuine need for them. By arranging these and adding influential artists to the landscape I am reminded of moments that grew into now. It keeps me aware of others’ paths and helps hone a deeper connection to their experiences.
